MAP BOARDS

Paragraph 2-1e says that hunting/
fishing maps must be posted prior to 1000 daily at the following locations:

- Harmony Church, Bldg 5883 (DPW)

- Gillespie Street, Bldg 1707 (DMWR)

- Uchee Creek Country Store

- MP Station, Main Post (DES)

- Malone 21 (DES)

WEBSITE

Although these physical maps provide a useful visual reference and a place to rendezvous before a hunt, the regulation no longer requires hunters to check them.

"Prior to entering open areas, sportsmen must verify that areas are open by checking the website." (para 3-4b(2))

TELTRACK

Even though they are required to check the website (or, in the absence of internet access, to check the posted map) Instead, hunters may check the open areas website. However, they must check in, or be able to show that they tried to check in via TELTRACK's main (automated) or secondary (answering machine) system.

"Hunters will use the automated TELTRACK Hunter Control (545-8387) as the primary method to check into a hunting area. The backup Hunter Control system is a 24-hour answering machine that will be used if the automated TELTRACK system is inoperative." (para 4-2b)

EARLY CHECK-IN

Yes--if TELTRACK is working. If not, try again up until just before you hunt. If TELTRACK is still down, follow the instructions in the regulation.

ACCESS PASSES

The wording of USAIC Reg 200‑3, paragraph 7-4(3) refers to two separate "access passes": a [temporary] vehicle access pass presumably to allow the vehicle onto Fort Benning, and a hunting and fishing access pass to identify a vehicle from which the pass holder is hunting or fishing:

"Vehicle Access Pass. Guests driving a POV may obtain a temporary vehicle access pass for the periods of their guest permit. While hunting or fishing, the temporary vehicle Access Pass and the Hunting and Fishing Access Pass shall be displayed...while hunting at any time of the year. All others riding in the vehicle are required to display their Hunting Access Passes. A hunter may park a vehicle lawfully and ride with another hunter to the hunting site. If a hunter does this, the hunter will display the Fort Benning Hunting/ Fishing Access Pass behind the windshield of the second vehicle, not from the parked vehicle."
(para 7‑4a(3))

What purpose do access passes serve?

What information do law enforcement officers need about unattended POVs and why?

What is the least information that would meet that need? Today's world requires post law enforcement personnel to balance personal freedoms with the mission to protect the installation and the people on it. Today an unattended vehicle could be a weapon. That is why a POV parked at a checkpoint can be towed.

E-mail your proactive discussion, proposed solutions (yeah, win-win only, please), and additional questions about topics on this page to huntingnfo@gmail.com.

As time allows, HuntingInfo will consolidate and post the responses they consider to be the best, most informative, and most innovative.

Notes: Correctly citing sources where they apply will add considerable credibility to your comments, and will hugely increase the likelihood that your they will be integrated into relevant discussions.
