nonorganic                                                        (adj) not organic (Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged Jul04)

nonorganic unit                                              Correct usage as opposed to 'inorganic unit.' Here's why: The definition of 'organic' that fit the usage in question was 'forming an integral element of a whole.' The definition for 'inorganic' did not refer in any way to parts or wholes. It only referred to living or dead, specifically, 'being composed of matter other than plant or animal.' Nonorganic, however, is conveniently defined only as 'not organic,' making it the only possible candidate. Source: Webster's Third New International Dictionary, Unabridged.
